« Shout It From the Rooftops | Main | Specter Under the Gun » November 10, 2004Ashcroft LeavesI never really understood what it was about John Ashcroft that so frightened people. Yes, he's much more religious than I am, and I probably wouldn't really enjoying spending time with the man, but I never saw anything about him that suggested he would be a bad Attorney General. Nor has his tenure changed that view in the slightest for me. He has enforced the laws as written, and he has generally done what the AG is supposed to do. I haven't always agreed with his actions, but my disagreement is with the laws, not with Ashcroft's enforcement of them. Matt Yglesias (whom I enjoy reading, despite his silly 'reality-based community' header) has a nicely-written piece that discusses this in more detail, and, since Matt is a card-carrying liberal, may do a better job convincing my readers than my own far-right, homophobic rantings.Posted at November 10, 2004 02:54 PM
Comment policyI apologize for only allowing authenticated commenters, but comment spam overwhelms the site if I don't use those measures to prevent it. I reserve the right to delete any comment, although generally comments will only be deleted due to use of profanity or personal attacks on people. I have no objection to vigorous argument, but when name-calling begins, I'm putting a stop to it. In the immortal words of Eugene Levy, "People, people, let's stop this before somebody says something untrue!" If you want to call people names, I recommend you get your own blog. If we keep this up, we can 'googlebomb' you to the top 10 ranking for 'homophobic rants'! Posted by: Enrak at November 10, 2004 09:40 PM Merely a little sarcasm directed at the notion that those who voted for Bush are all tobacco-chewing, gay-hating, etc., etc. Posted by: Andrew at November 11, 2004 05:24 AM FDR said that he never did business with a man who can't handle 2 martinis for lunch. A person who doesn't drink at all is unfit for any position. At least that is what the Irish part of my family says. The alcoholic part says that not drinking shows discipline Posted by: Scott at November 11, 2004 02:41 PM I'm afraid you'll have to toss me out, then, Scott, because I don't drink either (though probably for different reasons than Ashcroft). Posted by: Andrew at November 11, 2004 02:45 PM Too bad, you could have been my Secretary of Defense or something. Is it legal to be a Red Sox fan and not drink? I thought they were like Cubs fans, where in most years being one was reason enough to drink. Posted by: Scott at November 11, 2004 02:54 PM Post a commentThanks for signing in, .
