Go Time

With the Iraqi report on their weapons of mass destruction in the hands of the United Nations, it's about time for President Bush to bring this kabuki act to its conclusion. Iraq continues to insist it possesses no weapons of mass destruction, despite prior Iraqi use of such weapons and the masses of evidence that indicate they're working to construct even more horrible weapons for use in the future.

The delays of the past year have given Hussein's scientists twelve valuable months to complete construction of nuclear devices, weaponized anthrax and smallpox, and various nerve agents. We can only hope that they weren't able to use that time to develop anything that nasty. But every day we give them is one more chance for them to finish the job and force us to go to war with a nuclear power. The potential consequences of such an attack are too horrible to contemplate, not only for the west, but for the people of Iraq, who would be the primary recipients of the retribution Hussein would receive for unleashing WMDs against the west.

We've checked all the right blocks. Congress has given the President the authority to act. Iraq has been given one final chance to come clean. It should be evident to all that Saddam Hussein will never voluntarily disarm. So the time has come for us to move in and do it ourselves. Delay helps no one.
