« Oscars 2005 V | Main | Oscars 2005 VII » February 27, 2005Oscars 2005 VII'd seen the M&Ms commercial where the M&M takes out the obnoxious moviegoer before, but this was the first time I saw the M&M throw a sucker punch on the guy when he starts to come to again. What do they do in the theater while the TV is on a commercial break? Are the bathrooms really crowded then? Nice zinger from Rock on the trimming the Oscars by not presenting them all on stage. Better zinger about Oprah being so rich he saw John Kerry proposing to her last week. Finding Neverland takes home the Oscar for Best Score, and the winner makes a very nice speech. Scorsese looks a little tight coming up to present the Hersholt award. Hard to blame him, given how many times he's fallen short on Oscar night. I'm not sure how preserving film makes one a humanitarian, but it is certainly a fine and worthy pursuit. I hate to think of how many good pieces of film have already degraded to the point they are lost to us forever. Roger Meyer gives a very nice speech exhorting his fellow filmmakers to continue to preserve the greatest works of the past. Bening introduces the annual tribute to the actors we lost over the past year. Yo-Yo Ma plays Bach to accompany the film. Ronald Reagan receives an impressive amount of applause. I liked the inclusion of the credits of the producers and other non-actors, although they didn't do that for everyone for some reason. It's always tough to see just how many good men and women Hollywood loses each year. A sad reminder of just how much talent has passed through over the decades. Posted at February 27, 2005 08:30 PM
