« Oscar's Big Night | Main | Oscars 2005 II » February 27, 2005Oscars 2005 ISo the actors are coming in, and it's necessary to comment of the dresses being worn by the various stars. Who am I to decline this tradition? Renee Zellweger looks like she's already hit the party circuit pretty hard this weekend. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but it is a reminder of how much Hollywood has changed over the past 30 years. I still remember actresses who looked average or worse. Today, however, actresses tend to be uniformly good-looking. Not that I'm complaining, but I suspect that a number of good actresses are cut out of good parts because they don't have the looks. Beautiful question asked of Orlando Bloom: before you were famous, you took acting seriously, right? I mean, as opposed to all these other actors who are just in it for the money. (Amanda wonders if that's the same mustache he was trying to grow last year.) I haven't seen any of the movies, but that won't stop me from making some picks. Best Actress seems pretty obvious: Bening has paid her dues, so tonight is her night. Best Actor is a little tougher, as Clint has been around forever, but I think this is Jamie Foxx's night. Favorite Oscar acceptance speech Tom Hanks' for Philadelphia? I think I'd pick Cuba Gooding Jr.'s acceptance for Jerry Maguire: I'll take pure joy over pathos any day. Well, I guess it's time to get started. Here's hoping Chris Rock knocks 'em dead. Posted at February 27, 2005 06:03 PM
