Break Up the Patriots
Congratulations to the New England Patriots, who tonight won their third Super Bowl in four years, cementing Bill Belicheck's place in the annals of professional football and establishing themselves as the most frugal dynasty in history (three wins, nine points). While it was an exciting game, it was rather sloppy on both sides. The Pats made any number of mistakes, but Philly couldn't take advantage thanks in large part to Andy Reid's decision to give up early, burning up the clock as if the Eagles were up by ten rather than trailing by ten. The Pats might still have won the game, but the Eagles would not have had to rush nearly as much at the end if they'd displayed a little more urgency on the previous drive. I suspect Eagles fans will be replaying that nonchalance frequently over the offseason.

Yeah, I don't know what was up with that clock management by the Eagles. They had the ball with a good 6 or 7 minutes left on the clock, but they took an astounding 5 minutes or so to score, as if _they_ were the ones who had the lead at the time (as you noted). And even during the last 40 seconds, McNabb passed to Westbrook (thus keeping the clock running) rather than throwing it away. Very disappointing for us Philadelphians. McNabb had an awful night - you could see it on his face. It's a shame, because a lot of other players brought their A game (TO's performance was certainly a surprise). Even Pinkston was making obscene catches. Very frustrating, but this isn't really anything new for Eagles fans. They were certainly a better team this year, but in all fairness, they were lacking something...

I would blame the loss on the coaching staff. Time management really is the responsibility of the coach. With 8 and 1/2 minutes to play the Eagles should have been in the hurry up mode. What in heavens name were they doing in the huddle? Ultimately, the coach is responsible for not kicking them into high gear early enough.
