Situation Report
I've made it to Fort Polk safely, where I have already learned all I ever wanted to know about rural Louisiana. I'm spending the night in DeRidder, 20 miles down the road, because the Army is putting us up in open-bay WWII billets and we decided we were willing to pay for a night in a hotel to avoid a night in the billets. If I can, I'll post some pictures later this week. We don't really know what we'll be doing here yet, beyond serving as observer/controllers, and Internet access is pricey, so I don't know how much additional posting I'll be able to do. Until then, the blogroll is filled with good reading. I'll be back when I can.

I apologize for only allowing authenticated commenters, but comment spam overwhelms the site if I don't use those measures to prevent it. I reserve the right to delete any comment, although generally comments will only be deleted due to use of profanity or personal attacks on people. I have no objection to vigorous argument, but when name-calling begins, I'm putting a stop to it. In the immortal words of Eugene Levy, "People, people, let's stop this before somebody says something untrue!" If you want to call people names, I recommend you get your own blog.

It sounds like it has not changed much. Be careful of the speed trap as you go through the 1/4 of highway which pass through New Llano. They have been on 20/20 as the most successful speed trap in the nation.
I have intimate knowledge of those maneuver areas. Stay away from those red cockaded woodpecker trees! Remember white paint - getting warm. Red paint - get out of there!
Down the street into "downtown" Leesville, there is a corner liquor store with a small shed in back. They have the best and cheapest mudbugs there. 5 lbs will get you through a football game.
Good luck and put on plenty of bug juice.
