« The Noose Tightens | Main | The Real Enemy » February 08, 2004A Lie We Can Agree OnI have assiduously defended President Bush from the cries that 'Bush lied' that echo throughout the corridors of the left these days, because the claim simply doesn't agree with the available facts. But as Joshua Claybourn points out today, the President told a whopper today regarding the budget. (Actually, it's possible that he doesn't know he's wrong, so he may not be lying, just incompetent.) The President claims that discretionary spending is down since he took office, when the plain truth is that discretionary spending is up some $124 billion in Bush's first two budgets alone, an increase of 18.6%. The fact the President could say that with a straight face seriously disturbs me, and further convinces me that Kerry is a better candidate for President this November as long as it appears the Republicans will hold onto Congress.
