« Return of the Warming Fearmongers | Main | Tell Me What You Really Think » January 08, 2004Retaining CredibilityZeyad, an Iraqi blogger, has a report of criminal misconduct on the part of American soldiers earlier this month. I have no idea of knowing if the report is accurate, but we need to find out. The Army and the CPA in Iraq should do what is necessary to investigate this event. If it really happened, then the soldiers involved should be dealt with in accordance with the law. If it didn't, at least we can be sure that we're treating the issue with the seriousness it deserves. Hat tip: Instapundit. Update: Blackfive notes this story sounds suspiciously similar to an incident that occurred when Iraqis executed a Kurdish chief's son. One hope's this is BS, and that's how I'd bet if I had to, but I still believe we're going to have to investigate it in order to avoid any appearance of a cover-up. Update: Instapundit has a good collection of letters examining the story. I should note that the story sounds flaky; American troops aren't free to simply wander Iraq, especially in areas like Samarra, and the idea that an official patrol would all be willing to execute two Iraqis and that they somehow could without being detected beggars belief.
