« Stop Loss Blues | Main | Defining Marriage Down » December 29, 2003Rocky Mountain Blogger Roundup IIAs promised, here's a roundup of what Colorado bloggers have been talking about over the past few weeks. I'd like to take a minute to recognize the man who got the ball rolling for the RMBR, Walter in Denver, without whom you could be reading something far less productive right now. Going in the order that they sent in their links, I'll start with Jed Baer's look at a lawsuit against the gun industry that is going forward in Indiana. He makes a good case that some sort of legislative action to prevent such nuisance suits might be the only way to prevent frivolous lawsuits and protect Americans' Second Amendment rights. Matthew Edgar takes on Return of the King and argues that it wasn't as good as the score might indicate. While I don't agree with his conclusion (Return of the Jedi ensured that the first Star Wars trilogy couldn't be very good), he makes a good argument. Dave Cullen has made his decision in the 2004 Presidential Race: he's a Dean man, and while (once again) I don't agree with his conclusion, it's a great piece. Andy from the World Wide Rant offers something from his softer side (Sears was unavailable for comments); holiday wishes for his friends and neighbors in the blogosphere (and I'm sure my absence was a mere oversight in the hustle of the season). Colorado Luis has a few thoughts about the changing view of religion and the near-success of a pagan in a recent Colorado election. Gary Farber, my favorite liberal blogger, has some great observations on the War on Straw, as well as a hard look at Saudi Arabia and an argument that the Republican party doesn't own the American flag. (Gary bribed me for multiple links...everyone else remember that for next time.) Lots of us visit various 'Which XXX are You' quizzes and post the results, but Tim Berglund went us one better and actually analyzed what a quiz said about which philosopher(s) his beliefs most closely resemble. Looking to keep the size of the federal government down? Work for peace, says Peter Saint-Andre, backing it up with an analysis of when various U.S. government departments were born. RMBR founder Walter in Denver takes on some pernicious untruths about government spending and the growth or shrinkage of the federal government. As skiers in Colorado know well, getting across the Front Range to the popular ski resorts like Breckinridge and Copper Mountain is a nightmare at the best of times, so Fusilier Pundit offers a solution: an airship. While I can't evaluate the technical aspects, Fuz makes a pretty good case. James Freeman takes note of a sailor who demonstrated that persistence is still the sine qua non of success, as well as news of a 'terrorist circuit' of U.S. cities where Middle Eastern terrorists can easily infiltrate American society. Publicola, like me a more covert Colorado blogger, notes that an extension of the so-called assault weapons ban may still be in the cards. And while this post about everyone's complicity in allowing people to stand defenseless against criminals is a little older, Publicola would love to have some more people check it out as well. For my money, it's worth the read. Jared Keller examines one columnist's reaction to Saddam Hussein's capture and takes a look at why some people are more interested in political victory than victory over Islamofascism. Howard Dean may only think the idea that President Bush was forewarned about the September 11 attacks is an interesting theory, but Jeralyn of TalkLeft points out someone who's doing something about it. Thanks for stopping by and checking out this roundup of what Colorado bloggers are talking about. If you know a Colorado blogger who wasn't represented, tell him to send me a note so he can be included next time. Please feel free to spread the word about the roundup, as I think these articles are quite worthy of as many readers as possible. Posted at December 29, 2003 07:52 PM

I blog on health care policy, politics, stocks and economics. Most of my 700-plus posts during the last 11 months have been about national issues, but during the legislative session, I blog Colorado health care politics pretty intensively. Have a look at www.businessword.com. Posted by: Don Johnson at January 3, 2004 08:21 PM |
