« On the Road (Yet) Again | Main | License v. Liberty » July 04, 2003The Fruits of Iraq JustificationI objected strongly when many who had supported the war on Iraq began claiming the war was justified regardless of the presence of WMDs because we had removed Hussein from power and therefore made the lives of ordinary Iraqis better. We didn't invade Iraq to improve the lives of Iraqis, we did so to remove a perceived threat to the United States. Now we see the fruits of those attempts to distract attention from the missing WMDs: a more and more likely scenario of American troops in Liberia. After all, if Iraq was justified (after the fact) by the humanitarian aspects, why not Liberia? A former commander of mine once was fond of pointing out 'words have meaning.' Unfortunately, it appears that many prowar commentators may learn this too late, as their unnecessary attempts to justify the war in the wake of the missing WMDs may bring consequences that could have been easily predicted.
