Memorial Day

As on every Memorial Day, I like to point visitors to my collection of quotes and anecdotes known as The Reasons Why. It includes an array of stories from history and fiction that attempt to answer the question, why do people willingly sacrifice themselves for other? Why are some willing to serve others? I have often turned to it for inspiration in times of trouble, and I believe it has particular value on a day when we all pause to remember those who made the supreme sacrifice for our benefit.
