Can Congress Get One Right?

Representative Tom Davis (R-Va.) offers an excellent suggestion to deal with federal waste. It turns out that our federal government owns 3.2 billion square feet of office space, much of which is unused. The GAO estimates that tens of billions of dollars are being wasted by the government each year (an estimate that's off by at least an order of magnitude, but it's a start) on these properties. Rep. Davis wants the government to eliminate these buildings, or to lease them as a revenue generator. I'd prefer to see the former, as I don't really want to see the government in business for itself, but cutting a few billion from the budget every year would certainly be a good start. Take a minute to write your Congressman and suggest he or she throw some support towards this bill. It's our money, after all. Let's see if we can have just a little less of it wasted every year.
